Material Encounters: Transcultural Textiles in Germany

‘Material Encounters: Transcultural Textiles in Germany’ examines how contemporary artists engage with textiles to explore transcultural encounters within Germany. The thesis is divided into two sections: Chapters One and Two focus on the use of textile construction and embellishment processes (weave, stitch and print) as metaphors for describing transcultural encounters; Chapter Three brings together scholarship on transculturation (and postmigration), textiles and the body to examine how artists create corporeal encounters with the artworks.
